Elements of a Soundtrack

1. What is a film score and why is it used?
A film score is music made for the film. It is used to create an atmosphere and help convey the emotion of the scene.

2. What are Foley sound effects and why are they used?

They are sound effects made by people to recreate a real sound effect. They are used to make the scene seem more natural.

3. What is ADR and why is it used?
Automated dialogue replacement is the replacement of recorded dialogue with a recorded version. It is used for much clearer dialogue. This also helps with mixing the dialogue with the various sound layers.

4. What is the art of sound design?
Sound design is the creation of made up sounds. Like using a cup and slinky for lasers and paper for the doors in Star Trek.
